This was my first commissioned work, and I just went for it, no pattern just a crochet hook and an idea. Luckily, it turned out great. Unfortunately, I didn’t expect it to go so well in the first go, that I didn’t write down the pattern! I have tried to remember what I did below, so I apologise if it isn’t perfect.
Contact me if you would like me to make one for you.
I have a larger rainbow unicorn pattern available here.

- Change to dark pink. Slst, 3 ch, 1 dc x4, in the 3 ch gap (3 dc, 3 ch, 3 dc), 1 dc x5, sk 3 sts, [1 dc x5, in 3 ch gap (3 dc, 3 ch, 3 dc), 1 dc x5, sk 3 sts] repeat [] all around, join to 3 ch at start of round
- For the edging, sc all around, join.
- [Sc, 3 ch, slst in first ch, skip 1 st]. Repeat all around.
- Weave in ends
To assemble, refer to the picture, I recommend the following order
- Sew the head to the centre of the blanket.
- Sew the ears and horns on the head. I recommend pinning them to stop them moving around as you sew them on.
- Sew the legs to the bottom of the head and the blanket.
- Sew the strands of hair onto the top of the head.
- Using yellow yarn, sew on nostrils.
You are finished!
When I delivered this, I displayed it like a flower with the unicorn hidden away.
Thank for the pattern I will try it for my nephew xxx

Hi Gail,
Is there anything specific you are having trouble with? I am happy to help where I can.

Approximately how many stitches are between the eyes? I was feeling ambitious so I’m working it in Bernat Pipsqueak and basically crocheting by feel😬

Hi Teresa, I think there are approximately 8 stitches between the eyes and I think they are placed on row 8. But I usually do a place them and see what it looks like and adjust depending on how I feel it’s looking. Good luck with the Pipsqueak!

Hi Savannah,
Try adding 2 more “SC all around” rows before you do the decrease on row 11. I hope that helps.

Do you not join at the end of each round?

Hi Juanita, There is no join at the end of the round, you just start the next SC in the first stitch of the previous round. You are making a spiral rather than circles.

I should have ask a better question 😂 The beginning of the blanket don’t have joins correct?

Hi Juanita,
Sorry, I was referring to the unicorn. You do need to slip stitch on the blanket to the top of ch 3 at the start of the round when you start the rows with the DC. Before that you don’t need to join.
So, your comment is correct. There are no joins on rows 1-3 of the blanket.
Best regards,
Nimisha

Hi, sorry for the delay, I just saw this. No I just carry on to the next round. I prefer this, as then there isn’t a seam

I have a question about the yarn. I love the way yours looks and was wondering what type /weight yarn you used for this unicorn lovey.

Hi Paula, I mainly used DK, acrylic yarn for this. The light pink was DK, cotton. The brand is cygnet yarn.

Hello i am confused on when it says dc the what you are supposed to do in the 3 chain gap ehat does the one dc mean or where does it go?

Hi Kayla, when you do the DC you do it in the stitch from the row below. From row 7 onwards, in the 3 ch gap there 3DC, 3 ch, 3DC. Does this diagram help: https://handmadebynimy.files.wordpress.com/2019/06/img_3878.png

I am having problems with the head , I have no nose. I don’t know what I did wrong, please help.

Hi Teresa, do you have a picture? The head is quite small, so if you crochet tightly it might make it feel smaller. Add a couple of SC around rows before row 6 and see if that helps?

I don’t understand what the brackets mean in the description of the blanket.

They are the repeat sections. After the brackets there will be a “x9” or other number of repeats. You have to repeat everything in the brackets that number of times.

I’m still confused, there isn’t anything between the brackets, only between the parenthesis

Oh sorry! I see what you mean now. The number at the end in brackets shows the total number of stitches you have in each round.

Thank you for this pattern, I was wondering what to do a little girl for a christening present. For me this is working up really quickly. It is really easy to understand as I can do both UK (home ) and American terms. Once again thank you.

I shall be putting it up as a project on my Ravelry gcam39 until after the christening as the babies mum is a friend of mine on Facebook and her mum is also. I’m not sure if I have them on Instagram. Xx
